1. Lily Sugar’n Cream,Super Size Worsted Cotton Yarn, Weight 4 [ 100% cotton, 113g / 4oz, 184m / 200 yd per skein]; color: White (Color A), Orchid (Color B), Yellow (Color C); 1 skein of each.
2. US size G-6 (4 mm) crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Abbreviations
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
hhdc = herringbone half double crochet
rep = repeat
sc = single crochet
sk = skip
st = stitch
tch = turning chain
yo = yarn over
Notes
- For the Body of the mat:
- Chain stitches at beginning of each row counts as a stitch.
- Skip the first stitch of each row.
- Last stitch of each row will be worked into the top of the turning chain.
- Change Color: to change color, work stitch as normal to last yarn over, complete stitch by pulling new color through both loops on hook.
- Foundation chain is any multiple of 2 + 2.
- The stitch count in each row matches the stitch count of the first row.
Special stitch
Herringbone Half Double Crochet: yo, insert hook into st, yo, pull up a loop (3 loops on hook), pull through first loop on hook (2 loops on hook), yo, pull through remaining loops on hook.
Instructions
Foundation Row (With Color A):
Chain 36
Row 1: sk 3 ch, *sk 1 ch, dc in next ch, dc in sk ch; rep from * until last ch, dc in last ch, turn. (34 dc)
Row 2: ch 1, sc across, turn.
change to color B (see Pattern Notes)
Row 3: ch 2, hhdc in each st across, turn.
Row 4-5: rep row 3
change to color A
Row 6: rep row 2
Row 7: ch 3, *sk next st, dc in next st, dc in sk st; rep from * until last st, dc in last st, turn.
Row 8: rep row 2
change to color C
Rows 9-11: rep row 3
change to color A
Row 12: rep row 2
Row 13: rep row 7
Row 14: rep row 2
Rep rows 3-14 (2) times for a total of 38 rows. Rep rows 3-7 once more for a total of 43 rows.
Border:
With Color A
Round 1: ch 1, sc in each st around, making 3sc in each corner st (corner made), sl st to first sc to join.
Round 2: ch 3, 2 dc in same st, *3 dc in each st around, sl st to tch to join.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
